Postcards from the platforms

One professional spent a season on each of the four big platforms and mailed a card home from every stop. Wish-you-were-here honesty included.

Greetings from LinkedIn!

It's enormous here. A billion residents, two hundred-plus countries, and somehow everyone I've ever worked with has a house on my street. Set up my profile the first day and recruiters started knocking without me lifting a finger.

The town square (they call it "the feed") is louder than the brochures said, lots of machine-made announcements lately. But honestly? You don't have to visit the square. The house does the work.

Hello from the Indeed expressway!

Nobody lives here, and that's the point. It's a highway: 350 million travelers a month, three million employer exits, and I've never moved through applications faster. The Glassdoor rest stops are genuinely useful, reviews, salary boards, interview stories from people who drove this road before me.

Two warnings for your trip: some billboards are paid ads dressed as directions, and the rest-stop guestbooks are written by strangers, so read a stack of them, not one.

Passing through at speed. — K.

Notes from the Wellfound valley!

Tiny place, wonderful manners. Every shop posts its prices in the window, salary AND equity, right on the listing. Nowhere else does that. Knocked on a door yesterday and the founder herself answered.

It's a young settlement though. Eight million residents, startups only, and half the buildings are still scaffolding. Beautiful if you like frontier towns; bring your appetite for risk.

Charmed but clear-eyed. — K.

Finally outdoors — Meetup country!

No screens here, or barely. Two million gatherings a year, and I attended three this month: a product circle, a founders' breakfast, and a talk where I met someone who'd interviewed at the exact company I was researching. Lunchclub even arranged a one-on-one coffee, matched by some very polite algorithm.

There's no job office in this whole country, mind you. Opportunities grow wild here; you harvest them later. And the villages vary, some cities are bustling, some nearly empty.

Coming back monthly. — K.

Back home, unpacking

Four stops, four completely different countries, and not one of them charges admission. The itinerary I'd recommend after a year of travel: keep a permanent address on LinkedIn, take the Indeed expressway or the Wellfound valley road when you're job-bound, and vacation in Meetup country monthly, because that's where the photographs worth keeping get taken.
